Wolfgang Lehmann was born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1967.


He completed a master's degree at Stockholm University, majoring in the history of ideas, supplemented by studies in theoretical philosophy, intersectionality, and art history/visual studies.

He began writing film reviews in his early twenties and worked at the Freiburg municipal cinema (Kommunales Kino Freiburg) until 2005.

His first film work dates back to 1989.

Since 1994, Wolfgang Lehmann has directed and produced his own films. He has received invitations to screenings at festivals and museums in various European countries, as well as in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, the USA, Canada, India, Bangladesh, Japan, China (including Hong Kong), South Korea, and New Zealand.

After a long activity in his hometown of Freiburg im Breisgau/Germany, he has mostly resided since 2006 in Stockholm, Sweden with his wife and his two children.
